There are several different types of torts, each of which involves different types of wrongful acts. Some of the most common types of torts include:

  1. Negligence: This happens when someone fails to take reasonable care, causing harm to someone else. To prove negligence, the harmed person must show that the responsible person owed a duty of care, didn’t fulfill it, and caused harm.
  2. Intentional Torts: These occur when someone purposely causes harm to another person. Examples include assault, battery, false imprisonment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
  3. Strict Liability: This applies when a person is responsible for harm caused by their actions, regardless of their intentions or negligence. Examples include product liability and environmental torts.
  4. Defamation: This happens when someone makes a false statement that harms another person’s reputation. It can be spoken (slander) or written (libel).
  5. Nuisance: This is when someone interferes with another person’s use and enjoyment of their property, either privately or publicly.
  6. Invasion of Privacy: This is when someone violates another person’s right to privacy by intruding into private affairs, publicly disclosing private facts, creating a false impression, or using their image without permission.

These are just a few examples of torts that can be pursued in a civil lawsuit, depending on the specific circumstances and the harm caused.
