Preparation of Revenue Record is an important function of revenue administration in the Punjab province. The revenue record is maintained at the village level and is known as ‘Jamabandi’. The process of preparing revenue records is carried out by the revenue officials under the supervision of the Village Officer.
Preparation of Revenue Record Involves the Following Steps
- Khasra Girdawari: The first step in preparing the revenue record is to conduct a Khasra Girdawari. During this process, the Village Officer and other revenue officials visit each field in the village and record information about the land and its owner. This information includes the name of the owner, the area of land, the crops grown, and other details.
- Updating the Records: After the Khasra Girdawari, the records are updated to reflect any changes in ownership or crops. This is done through a process called ‘Mutation’, where the ownership of the land is transferred from one person to another.
- Compilation of Records: The next step is to compile all the information collected during the Khasra Girdawari and Mutation process into a single document. This document is known as ‘Jamabandi’ and contains all the relevant information about the land and its owner.
- Verification of Records: Once the Jamabandi is prepared, it is verified by the higher authorities, such as the Tehsildar or the Sub-Divisional Officer, to ensure its accuracy.
- Updation of Records: The revenue records are updated every year through a process called ‘Annual Jamabandi’. During this process, the Village Officer and other revenue officials revisit each field in the village and record any changes in ownership or crops.
